Chapter 3

The four of them stood looking at the tall building in front of them. It seemed overwhelming for a moment as they were reminded of what had taken place at the campus.

“Well, here we are again,” Amanda spoke out.

“Yeah, but this time it’s different.” Hudson leaned over and whispered.

Amanda’s stomach fluttered when she felt Hudson’s hot breath against her skin.

Amanda smiled.

Hudson was right this time, it was going to be different. Her heightened senses are to take effect as she heard people walking past them whispering and staring at her.

“Is that her?”

“She killed that Lycan King.”

“She doesn’t look powerful.”

“She’s intriguing.”

Were a variation of the gossip that was going on around her. She leaned into Hudson to calm herself.

“Let’s get you inside and get you girls settled,” Hudson told them.

“Good idea,” Tabitha said as she glared at some of the girls that had made some comments. They quickly turned and walked away.

Hudson and Marco grabbed the luggage from the back of the SUV.

“Stan, can you stay here. We’ll just be a few minutes.” Hudson told him.

“Of course, Alpha.” He said as he nodded at his Alpha.

As Hudson walked away, he could hear Stan growling at the other wolves as they walked by, intimidating them from talking about the Luna.

Hudson smirked.

It might be nice having someone else here to help him protect his mate, Hudson thought to himself.

They made their way up to the girl’s room and dropped off their luggage.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay with you?” Hudson asked Amanda as he tucked her hair behind her ear.

Amanda closed her eyes and leaned into his touch.

“Don’t tempt me.” She told him when she opened her eyes, her wolf was brimming at the surface.

Oh, now you want to come around.

Her wolf growled.

Hudson chuckled.

He leaned over and kissed his mate’s forehead and then pressed his forehead against hers.

“It’s going to be fun watching you go through what the pull of the bond does to you.”

She smacked him playfully against his chest and whined, “Hudson.”

He pulled her into a hug.

“I’ll be back for you around seven. Be ready for me.” He told her.

She smiled and nodded.

She got up on her tippy toes to get close to his lips, but she was still nowhere closer.

“What?” He said to her as he watched her try.

“Please?”

Hudson smiled and leaned closer for his mate to kiss him. Hudson pulled back before she was finished.

Amanda let out a growl.

“You are so cute, my little mate.”

Amanda scrunched her nose at the nickname.

“Marco, you ready?” Hudson said as he turned to his friend.

Marco and Tabitha were locked in a deep embrace and a kiss.

Marco leaned back from Tabitha and said, “I’m going to ask you what Hudson asked Amanda. Are you sure you don’t want to stay with me?”

Tabitha pulled her head back and laughed.

“I think some time apart will do us some good.” She told him. Even though her wolf was whining inside her not to let their mate leave.

Marco pulled back and put his hands up in the air.

“I’ll call you later.”

Mind-link

Hudson: Dude, you are so whipped.

Marco turned, looked at Hudson, and raised his eyebrow at him.

Marco: Really? You want to call me whipped. I ain’t the only one who’s whipped Alpha.

“Hey!” Tabitha said as she smacked Marco in the stomach.

“We made a promise not to sue Mind-link around Amanda.” She scolded.

Amanda sighed; it did bug her a little that she wasn’t able to mind-link anyone, especially Hudson. But she wasn’t an official member of the pack. Even though she was Hudson’s mate, and her dad was a member of the pack, she just found her wolf and needed to perform the ceremony to be accepted into the pack. They had talked about performing the mating ceremony, but she didn’t feel ready to fully commit herself to Hudson. She knew she loved him, but she had been human a lot longer than she had been a wolf. And she was still getting used to the whole mate bond.

They both turned and looked at Amanda.

“Sorry.”

Amanda just shrugged it off and said, “It’s fine. It doesn’t bother me.”

Hudson was starting to learn Amanda’s insecurities and temperaments. He knew that she just needed time to herself to work through her thoughts and emotions.

“Hey, we’re going to head out and let you unpack,” he told her.

“Will you still pick me up later?” She asked with concern.

Hudson smirked.

“Of course.”

Amanda smiled. She could feel the uncertainty start to slip away.

Hudson and Marco walked out of the dorm hall. As Hudson made his way to the car, he was bumped into against his shoulder with aggression.

“Excuse you.” He said with a growl to the guy.

The guy turned and smirked.

“Well, if it isn’t Hudson, the Alpha that needed his mate to save him.” He said with a sneer.

Hudson growled at the comment. He took a long look at the guy that was standing who had insulted him. He then reorganized who it was.

“Colson, it’s been a long time. Didn’t know you were going here.” Hudson said to him.

He smiled with venom at Hudson.

“Well, after recent events, Father and I thought it would be good to have a strong, supportive Alpha on the campus,” Colson said to Hudson as he eyed him up and down.

“There are plenty of Alphas that are attending here. The campus doesn’t need to be inflated by your ego.”

Colson tensed as he heard a small bit of laughter throughout the crowd.

“We’ll see. It’s not like you’ll be any god. You couldn’t even protect your mate.”

Hudson could feel his own and his wolf’s anger grows inside him.

Stan walked up and stood between Hudson and the other soon-to-be Alpha.

“I suggest you move along. Before I make you move.” Stan threatened.

“You should be showing me respect, I’m soon to be Alpha of the Howler’s pack.” Colson barked at Stan.

Stan continued to stare at the boy in front of him. He raised his brow at the kid.

“You’re not my Alpha. Now move along.”

Colson glared at Stan for a moment but then stared back as his venomous smile grew.

“This ain’t over, Hudson. I’ll be seeing you later.”

Hudson clenched his fists as he watched the guy walk away. He let out a breath and ran his hand through his hair. Is that what people thought? No, he said to himself. Colson had always been an ass, trying to get a rise out of other wolves so they would fight him. He wasn’t going to let himself stoop to Colson’s level. He was better than that.

“Come on, Alpha, let’s get you to your dorm,” Stan suggested.
