Zachary continued to move around the kitchen, trying to depict what kind of magic that was used in Vita’s kitchen. The coven that they had grown up in was used to using earth magic, but this he was feeling was very different, almost dark.
He vaguely remembered Vita talking with him when she came back about a coven that she had been staying with after the fallout she had with her family. There were still a few covens that were around that he was aware of, but they lived deeper in the darker parts of the woods.
“What are you sensing?” Deak asked.
He wished he knew more about his magical side of himself, but there hadn’t been a right time for him to practice, especially when he had his uncle demanding that he kept tabs on Amanda at all times. He was relieved that he was no longer under his Uncle’s rule and would be able to make his own choices. Before he made any decisions he needed to make sure that Vita was okay.
“I’m sensing darker magic here. I thought I would be able to get a sense of a signature on it. But my magic isn’t as strong as it used to be,” Zachary explained.
Deak took a deep breath. His wolf, Malakai, was not liking what he was hearing and was growing impatient.
Let me sniff it out, I bet I could find something, his wolf pressed into his thoughts.
Patience, Deak told his wolf.
You are a fool to put all your trust into this human, his wolf continued.
Deak rubbed his fingers against the temple of his head.
He started to chant an old incantation that his mother had taught him to help keep control of his wolf. After repeating the chant a few times, his wolf calmed, and he had better control of his thoughts.
Deak sighed in relief.
“Are you okay?” Zachary asked as he watched Deak gain control of himself.
“Better now. My mother helped me with simple spells to keep the wolf calm. It has been a long time since I needed to do that.”
Zachary nodded.
He knew how his feelings for Ruby made him feel; he could only imagine what it would be like for a wolf. Ruby used to explain the heightened emotions and the possessiveness that a male wolf feels for their mate.
Zachary let out a sigh.
Ruby.
He couldn’t get her off his mind. everything he did lead him right back to thinking about Ruby. he hoped they could get some alone time together, to talk things out and work on building a future for themselves together. But all that would have to wait until they knew that Vita was safe.
Amanda walked out of the elevator to her dorm floor. She was passing by one of the common rooms on the floor when she thought she heard something.
“Is that her?”
Amanda looked around but no one was looking at her or making eye contact with her.
“She doesn’t look anything special.”
Amanda shook her head and continued to walk.
“Ugh, she’s not even pretty. Why does Hudson even stay with her?”
Amanda got to the door of her dorm, unlocked the door, and quickly walked inside, slamming the door behind her.
She leaned against the door as she shut her eyes and tried to calm herself down.
Why was she hearing things?
We should demand those girls give us the respect we deserve, her wolf growled in her head.
Amanda didn’t agree; her mom always told her it was easier to attract bees with honey rather than vinegar.
She knew there was a chance that everyone was not going to accept this easily. According to Hudson and his family, there is a very little history of hybrids.
She thought about Deak.
Maybe he would have some insight about this.
Amanda changed into a pair of sweats and a baggy t-shirt. The weather had changed, and it was starting to get colder at night. She lay in her bed and pulled out her phone; she thought it would be better to call him rather than just send a text.
Ring, ring.
“Small girl, are you ok?” Deak asked when he answered the phone.
“Yes, but I had something happen to me when I was walking through the dorm hall.”
“What happened?”
“It was like I could hear the girls’ thoughts and they were talking about me,” she explained.
“Hmm…hold.”
She could hear him talking with someone else that was in the room with him.
“Has this happened to you before?”
She shook her head as she answered, “No, I don’t think so.”
“I put you on speaker. Zachary is here with me.”
“Hey, Amanda, so you’re hearing people’s thoughts? Have you and Hudson sealed your bond? It might be other wolves in your pack.”
Again, Amanda shook her head.
“No, not all the girl’s werewolves or even a part of our pack.”
She could hear them again talk softly amongst themselves.
“Your powers might be growing,” Deak told her.
“Some witches have a particular power, yours might be telepathy.”
“How do I control it? I don’t want to know what everyone thinks about it.”
“As soon as we get back, we will try to figure out a way to help with your powers.”
“Get back? Where are you?” she asked as she sat up in her bed.
“We’re at Vita’s place.”
“Really? So, you heard from her?” she asked with enthusiasm.
It was quiet on their end of the phone.
This made Amanda nervous.
“Guys? Are you still there?”
“Yes, small girl. We are still here. Only Vita is not.”
Amanda’s heart started to beat harder against her chest.
“What do you mean, Vita is not there?”
Zachary took the phone off speaker and spoke in a quieter tone.
“Amanda, it looks like Vita has been kidnapped.”
Amanda’s heart raced as her breathing became labored. Her emotions were all over the place and she couldn’t control anything. She let out a blood-curdling scream. As the scream, broke out so did a flash of green that blasted through the room.
Hudson was still close to Amanda’s dorm hall when he saw the flash.
“Amanda,” he breathed out with concern.
He ran toward the dorm hall.
“Hudson, wait, I wasn’t finished talking with you,” Ophelia squawked.
Hudson ignored her and went rushing into the hall and up to Amanda’s room.
Hudson threw the door open, and he saw Amanda tucked in a ball on her bed, rocking herself back and forth.
Hudson closed the door softly behind him so they wouldn’t draw attention.
“Amanda,” he called out to her.
She continued to just rock herself back and forth.
He walked across the room, sat at the edge of the bed, and watched his mate.
Amanda started to babble, “he can’t be.”
“She can’t be what?” Hudson asked her.
“She can’t be.”
“Hello, Amanda. Are you there?” Hudson heard the Professor say in a muffled tone.
He looked around Amanda and found her phone.
“Professor?”
“Hudson. Thank goodness, we heard a scream.”
“What did you say to Amanda?”
“We told her that Vita was missing.”
