Chapter 1

Her Darkest Side

“You’re nothing, loser!”

“Disgusting nerd!”

“Ugly duckling!”

Those are the names that they keep on calling me. Do they think after everything I’ve been through, some names like that will still affect me? I have been used to this ever since when I was just five years old.

“You’re so ugly, Althea!” one of my classmates yelled at me, she’s Mary. She’s been targeting me since the first day of school. I just looked at her as she sat on our teacher’s desk. Her skirt is four inches above the knee. It’s prohibited in our school, yet she does not give a damn about the rules. She does everything she wants like a spoiled bitch. Her name doesn’t match her personality. Mary my ass.

I was sitting in the last row in the classroom to avoid my classmates’ attention, but Mary and her squad still bother me every day. Seriously, I don’t get why she’s not getting tired of bullying me. They think bullying me will change the fact that I don’t give a damn about anyone anymore. They’re just wasting their time.

They’re bullying me due to my eyes and my physical appearance. Of course, anyone would wonder why my eyes are different. My left eye is golden yellow, while my right eye is green. I tried so hard to hide it with contact lenses, but my eyes keep on glowing every time I try them on, so I did not bother to try again.

My whole life, I’ve been different from everyone else and I know something’s not ordinary about me. I’ve never cared about anyone anymore. I don’t want to let anyone get close to me and find out what I’ve been hiding for my entire life. Besides, I prefer being alone. I’m afraid I might hurt anyone again.

“Been quiet again, huh? Do you think we’ll stop bullying you if you’re ignoring us?! Stupid!” Mary shouted again. I rolled my eyes, she was too loud and irritating. No one does not even want to be her friend except to her squad who just befriended her for her family’s wealth and connection.

She should be thankful I don’t want to fight back. I have all the strength to do that, but I don’t want to cause any trouble. I don’t want anyone to find out about me.

“Speak up, Geek!” I tilted my head when Mary pointed her finger threateningly in front of me Her expression changed, and I knew I just gave her another reason to be pissed at me today.

“Looks like she wants to fight back!” one of my classmates said, trying to make Mary angrier so that she’d spent the day beating the hell out of me again.

“Can’t you just open your mouth?!

You’re such a freak!” Vanessa said one of Mary’s friends who has weird thick makeup on her face. She thinks she looks attractive, but it’s the other way around though.

I sighed and leaned on my chair. Why is our teacher still not here? I want this to be over now. Mary is a different person when our teachers are around. She’d go around trying to gain our Teachers’ trust, but when they are gone, she’d speak badly about them.

Forget it. I’ll skip my subject for now. Though it looks like our teacher isn’t coming. I’d rather go home than waste my time being bullied by them.

I fixed my things in my bag and was about to leave when Mary called me, “Althea!” I took a glance and I was shocked when the bottle full of water she was holding spilled all over my uniform and in my face making me quiver.

Instead of helping me, our room was filled with the laughter of our classmates. I let out a deep sigh and wiped away the water on my face. I’m so done with her shits. I took my bag and walked away.

“And where do you think you’re going?” Mary blocked my way. She smirked. Of course, it’s so typical of her to stop me from leaving for she’s not done ruining my day.

“Leaving.” Your stupid fuck. Isn’t it obvious? She’s pretty yet has an empty head, I guess.

She smirked again as if what I have said is not even possible. She stomped her shoe, making a sound, she crossed her hand on her chest like a superior scolding someone lower than her.

“Leaving? I will report you for ditching our class, Althea.” Before I forgot, she’s the Class President. She manipulated the voting. She wants the power to rule and be on top. That’s why she doesn’t mind bullying students lower than her, like me. No one would even believe me if I tried to tell them Mary is a bitch who’s been tormenting my life since high school.

The room was filled with murmur and laughter. “Report her! Report her!” My classmates mocked me.

Really? They were on Mary’s side? I can’t blame them. Everyone who tries to turn their back on Mary’s side will be doomed. So, no one dares to fight back.

“I’m leaving,” I said in my cold voice. I’m getting pissed and I don’t want that. I hate myself when I’m angry. I’m not in control every time that happens.

Mary made a face. “Our poor ugly nerd is leaving! Not yet you’re not.” She played with my hair which made me angry. I grabbed her hand and pushed her which made her gasp in shock. Before she could even react, I started to walk away, leaving them.

But she followed me along with her squad. I can feel my rage starting to rise inside me. I’ve never been this angry since then and once she pushes me to my limit, I can’t guarantee that I can control myself.

“Hey, Geek!” I closed my eyes and my fist when a book hit the back of my head, Mary threw it to me with a lot of force and it hurts. When I opened my eyes, my vision started to blur, and my eyes were glowing.

Their laughter echoed in my head and my hands started heating up like there was a fire inside me that wanted to come out. “P-Please…stop.” I tried so hard to calm myself down or else nothing will come out good.

As hard as I could, I will just pretend I didn’t hear them and got away from there as fast as I can. I was about to walk away when Mary shouted something that made me stop “You, Geek! You don’t belong here! A cursed orphan!”

The rage I feel within me started to burst out. That’s it! She’s below the belt. I faced them and their laughter vanished the moment they saw my eyes glowing. They looked at me as if they were terrified of what they were seeing, but who made me this way? It was them!

“I said stop.” My voice became stiff and my trembling hands are now heating beyond normal. A tear glided down from my eye. Cursed orphan. No matter how many times I’ve heard it, I still can’t get used to it. It still hurts.

I gritted my teeth and a strong wind started to swirl around the campus as the sky started to get darker like there was a typhoon coming. They pushed me to be like this, the monster that I’ve been hiding inside me was trying to come out. And surely, someone will get hurt again since I can’t control myself now.

“What’s happening?!” one of Mary’s friends yelled in fear, but I was just standing there. Looking at them with so much anger.

“Mary! Your hair, it’s rising!” Jackie was taken aback, and they all turned their heads on Mary’s hair. It was rising along with the strong wind lurking around the hallway. Mary’s frightened look made me want to crush her even more.

“What’s happening to me?!” Mary hissed, but before she could even react, the wind lifted her as if someone is lifting her. My gaze was focused on Mary as the wind swayed her in different directions. It’s as if the wind is obeying my command.

“Help me, please!” she pleaded, but even her friends couldn’t do anything to help her. At this point, I might kill her.

“Mary!” My classmates shouted, helplessly as their President was blown away by the wind.

“What’s happening? Somebody, help her!” Mary wailed as the wind keeps on yanking her hair.

Vanessa tried to pull Mary’s foot, but I motioned my hand to her, and she was thrown from the wall, making her scream in pain.

The hallway that was filled with laughter earlier was now filled with screams and sobs of my classmates trying to help Mary and Vanessa. I was about to drop Mary off at this high building when I suddenly remembered something.

“You’re not a curse.”

Father Kynlee’s voice stopped me. I stepped back slightly as Mary fell to the floor. Her body was bruised because of what had happened and her head was also bleeding. I almost stumbled upon thinking of what I just did.

“Help her!” our secretary shouted.

Everyone approached Mary’s body lying unconscious on the floor as well as Vanessa.

I closed my eyes. I did this. This is what I hate most to happen. When I’m mad, I can kill anyone. And I hate myself for that.

“What did you do to them?!” Jackie shouted at me. I want to tell them that I have nothing to do with what happened to Mary or even to Vanessa. But I know I did it.

I turned my back on them and ran away from there while holding back my tears. I’m a monster.

I bumped into people walking on the streets, some yelled at me, but I couldn’t say sorry for I can’t face anyone anymore knowing I’d become a monster again.

I found myself in a park four blocks away from our school, it’s quite eerie in here for a park and no one seems to visit the place. I sat on the ground full of grass. I looked at my hands and started crying.

Everything I was afraid to happen, really happened. This is the darkest side that I’ve been hiding all along. I have powers within me that a normal person doesn’t have.
