Chapter 12

Colson smiled with enthusiasm as he watched Hudson get angry and possessive of his mate. Colson was soon to be the Alpha of a pack that was no longer in alliance with Hudson’s pack.

Their fathers didn’t agree on how packs should be run, and Hudson’s father didn’t want to resign from the treaty. Colson’s father Samuel never liked Benjamin. He thought that he was too soft on his pack. Samuel believed in keeping the bloodline of their pack pure. You could only mate with another wolf, and if you were mated to a human or a witch, you had to reject them.

Colson sighed.

He agreed with his father on a lot of things, but there was something different about the hybrid that was in front of him.

She intrigued him.

Colson leaned closer to the little hybrid who was in front of him.

“Looks like I pissed off your mate. You might want to keep him on a leash, so you don’t have to rescue him, again.”

Amanda looked at the cocky guy in front of her. He lacked any type of appeal to her.

“Hudson can take care of himself,” she told him.

“You think so? Let’s test your theory,” he told her.

He reached out and made a grab for her arm. But she pulled back quick enough to not be touched by him.

Hudson raged.

He stormed over quickly and got in between Colson and Amanda.

“What did I tell you? LEAVE. MY. MATE. ALONE,” he growled.

Amanda touched the back of Hudson to calm his wolf.

“Hudson, he’s not worth it. Please, let’s go watch the movie,” she whispered.

“Yeah, Hudson, listen to your mate. Run along and be a good boy,” Colson taunted.

Marco mind-linked Hudson.

Marco: Alpha, you can’t make a scene. Your father wouldn’t like it.

Hudson continued to stare at Colson, not wanting to back down. It wasn’t the first time that Colson had pushed his buttons. For years, they had an intense dislike for each other. But now Hudson had a reason to hate the guy. He was messing with his mate.

Colson rolled his eyes. “You know what, I’m bored. Come on let’s get out of here,” he ordered his fellow pack members.

Hudson turned and watched Colson leave with his friends from the theater. His wolf was on edge, as was he, and even though he could feel the warmth of Amanda’s touch it was not helping him.

Marco and Tabitha both walked up to Hudson.

“Hudson.”

He turned to look back at his mate and friends; his eyes burned with rage.

“Do what you want, I have to get out of here,” he told them before he stormed out of the theater and made a run into the woods, shifting quickly into his wolf and howling into the night.

Amanda stood there silent and confused.

She wrapped her arms around herself as she continued to stare at nothing.

You couldn’t calm him. Her wolf wailed in her head.

Tabitha placed her hand on Amanda’s shoulder.

“Come on, let’s go watch the movie. Hopefully, he’ll come back by the time the movie is over,” she suggested.

Amanda sighed.

She turned and looked at her two friends and nodded then followed them into the theater.

It was night by the time Zachary and Deak had reached the small town that once was home to him.

“So, this was your hometown,” Deak said as he looked at the sullen town.

“I know it’s not much right now, hopefully, the families will be able to come back and restore what they once had before your Uncle stole it all from them.”

Deak nodded his head. He knew his Uncle had been a greedy man; he was concerned about who was going to try and take his place. He had been getting phone calls from his Uncle’s lawyer wanting to go over the will with him. But he had no desire to hear what his Uncle’s demands were in the event of his death.

“For their sake, I hope they do,” Deak said quietly.

Zachary made his way to the outskirts of town and drove up the long drive to Vita’s family home.

Deak was confused by the run-down house.

“Are you sure, Vita lives here?” Deak asked.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover. Vita knew how to keep people from finding her for quite some time,” Zachary explained.

Zachary pulled up to the abandoned house.

Zachary got out of the truck and made his way to the front porch, with Deak following behind him.

Zach froze when he saw that the front door was slightly open.

“Something’s not right,” he whispered.

Deak stepped in front of Zachary and started to sniff using his Lycan senses to see what he could pick up.

“Wait here,” Deak said to Zachary.

“No wait!”

But Deak was already stepping over the threshold when suddenly he was jolted by an electrical current and thrown off the porch and across the yard.

Zachary quickly ran over to check on Deak.

“Are you okay?” he asked as he helped Deak get back onto his feet.

“What was that?” Deak growled.

“Vita has a magical security system around her property. I noticed it just before you stepped in. I tried to stop you,” Zachary said with a shrug.

Deak glared at him as he stretched his body and rolled his neck. There seemed to be nothing too concerning at the moment. Just his ego being slightly bruised.

“I think I can get passed her spell. I just need a few minutes to look around.”

Deak leaned against the truck.

“I’ll wait here.”

“Good choice.”

Zachary circled the property; he noticed the different wind chimes that were strategically placed around the entire house.

Zachary smirked.

“Good job, kiddo,” he said to himself.

It still impressed him how much Vita had learned about magic in such a short period of time and mostly on her own.

Zachary went up to one of the wind chimes and started to chant a spell. The windchime started to glow and shake before it dulled out completely.

“Alright, it’s safe.”

“Are you sure?”

Zachary walked through the front threshold and was completely fine.

Deak walked slowly up the steps and looked at the front threshold for a long moment before slowly stepping into the house.

Deak sucked in a breath when he started to look around Vita’s house. It looked nothing like the outside. It was clean and colorful, full of antique furniture. It reminded him of his family’s home.

Deak started to walk around as he sniffed out the place.

“There’s no one here,” he told Zachary.

“That’s what I’m afraid of. Vita must have known the people who took her or else they would not have been able to get past the door,” Zachary explained.

Deak let out a growl when he walked into the kitchen and saw that there were signs of a struggle.

“Professor, in here.”

Zachary froze once he reached the kitchen. Deak was growling ferociously as fur started to grow on his arms and his claws lengthened; Deak was losing control and his wolf was taking over.
