Amanda made her way to Hudson’s dorm. She hadn’t heard from him since his last text and was getting worried about him; she just wanted to make sure that he was okay.
As she made her way up to his room, she could hear guys whistling in her direction trying to get her attention. Amana ignored them, not wanting to draw any more attention to herself.
When she got to Hudson’s door, she let out a sigh and then knocked. She waited there for about a minute before she heard someone coming to the door.
Marco opened the door and was surprised to see Amanda standing there. “Amanda, what are you doing here?” he asked.
“I came to check on Hudson. I hadn’t heard from him since earlier. Is there something wrong?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.
Her wolf Willow was whining, wanting to see their mate.
Marco looked back behind him and then back at her, keeping the door close to him so she couldn’t see in. “Now’s not a good time, Amanda,” he told her.
“But I’m his mate. If he’s hurt, he needs me,” she said softly.
She was trying hard not to make a scene in the hallway.
Tabitha pushed Marco to the side as she exited the room; Amanda stepped to the side to let her out. “You two are being ridiculous. Amanda’s right, but Hudson is being too stubborn and pigheaded to let his pride go and let her come in. And since you’re siding with him on this, I’m leaving to be with Amanda,” Tabitha told him. “When you two are done being jerks, let us know.”
Tabitha linked her arm to Amanda’s and pulled her down the hall. They were quiet until they got outside.
“Argh!!” Tabitha yelled out. Amanda stayed quiet until Tabitha was ready to talk. “He’s being so stupid.”
“What happened?”
Tabitha stopped for a moment, looked back at the guy’s dorm hall, and then back at Amanda. She shrugged and decided that she was going to tell Amanda what happened. “Hudson got into a big fight this afternoon with one of the other pack Alphas.”
Amanda’s eyes widened as her wolf howled. “Is he ok? How did this happen?”
“Come on, let’s walk over to Ruby’s and we can talk about it over something hot and sweet,” Tabitha told her.
Amanda let out a sigh, nodded, and started to follow Tabitha to the cafe.

Marco closed the door after Tabitha left. He stood there for a moment as he took a deep breath, trying to shake off the hurt he was feeling that Tabitha was mad at him. He turned around and looked over at his friend. He may have won the fight, but he was banged up pretty badly.
“You know they’re right,” he told Hudson as he walked back over and sat in the chair by the bed.
Hudson started to cough and grabbed his side to apply pressure so that it wouldn’t hurt as much. “I’m fine, I just don’t want her to see me like this. Alright?” he coughed out.
“She’s seen you in worse condition.”
“I just want to deal with this by myself. I don’t need anyone’s help,” Hudson growled.
Marco raised his hands in surrender, got up from the chair, and walked back to the door.
“Well, if you do decide you need some help, I’m just a mind link away,” Marco told him before he left.
Hudson squeezed his eyes shut as he pushed through the pain that he was feeling. Artemis, his wolf, was getting frustrated with him too. Why was he being so stubborn about asking for help from his mate? This was what was supposed to be so great about their bond and he was ruining it.
Hudson lifted his hand and with a fist, he punched at the wall. He was screwing things up, but there was just something that was stopping him from wanting Amanda to be close to him.
He thought back to the fight from earlier with the other Alpha—there was something he said that just wouldn’t stop bothering him.
“Maybe you should call your mate so she can fight your battles for you,” Aaron had said to him right before he threw the first punch at Hudson.
Is that what they were all thinking? That he couldn’t fight his own battles? Had they even gone up against a Lycan before?
He could feel his frustration start to boil as he continued to think about it.
You need to let it all go if you want us to heal, Artemis told him.
Hudson let out a frustrated grunt but closed his eyes and tried to rest as his wolf continued to heal them.
***************
Deak tried hard to contain the anger that he was feeling. Who was this Tristan guy they were talking about? Had he hurt his Vita in the past? Was he hurting her now? Deak could feel his wolf, Malakai, wanting to take over.
Now is not the time. Be patient, we will find her soon, he told his wolf.
He could feel him simmer down a little, but not by much.
“Tristan is Persephone’s son. Vita was involved with him when she left her family and stayed with their coven for about a year. But after she lost her family, she left that coven and hadn’t been back since. I don’t understand why they would grab her if she hadn’t been back,” Zachary explained.
“Small girl called me. She said she thinks she had a vision,” Deak told them.
“A vision?” Madeline questioned.
“Well, that lines up with when she said she was hearing people’s thoughts as she was walking past them,” Zachary answered. “Did she say what she saw?”
Deak shook his head. “Not a lot, just a dark room, like a basement. Vita was tied up and asked Amanda for her help.”
Zachary pounded his fist on the counter. “We need to find Vita and we need to find her now.”
He hated that Vita was having to go through this. He felt like it was his fault. If he hadn’t come to her for help, then she wouldn’t know anything, and they wouldn’t keep her for questioning.
“I’m open to whatever plan you have for getting her back,” Deak told him.
“We need to go get Amanda. Maybe if she was here, we could help her reach out to Vita with her powers and find out where they have her,” Zachary started to ramble as he pushed his hands through his hair. He couldn’t think of anything else that could help.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Ruby cut in. “She’s been through a lot these last few weeks. She hasn’t even begun to learn how to control her power.”
Zachary could tell that he hit a nerve volubly to help.
“Ruby, it’s okay. I agree, I don’t want to involve a small girl unless we have to,” Deak told her.
Ruby let out a sigh of relief as she looked over at Deak and smiled.
“Perhaps I might be of some help,” Madeline informed them.
