Ruby stood there waiting to hear what Zachary and his mother were talking about.
“I think I’m going to go lie down for a bit,” Madeline said as she started to walk toward Ruby.
Ruby could see that Madeline was exhausted. “Are you okay?” Ruby asked her.
Madeline smiled as she cupped Ruby’s cheek. “I’m fine, just tired.”
Ruby moved back out of the entryway to allow Madeline through.
“I’ll be right back, Ruby,” Zachary told her as she followed his mother out of the room.
Ruby walked into the kitchen. She needed to keep herself busy before she started to overthink things.
“Where is everyone?” Deak asked as he made his way into the kitchen,
“Madeline had to go lie down and Zachary followed her just to make sure that she was okay,” she answered.
“Do you remember anything from that spell?” Ruby asked him.
Deak shook his head, as he slammed his fist onto the counter. “Why can’t I remember?” Deak asked out loud. “I have this feeling that I was close to her, but I don’t remember any of it.”
“Deak, you need to remain calm or your wolf will lose control,” she reminded him.
Deak sucked in a breath as he narrowed his eyes at Ruby. He knew she was right, but he didn’t enjoy being chastised like a little boy.
Ruby placed her hand on her hip and met his glare dead on. Deak growled but finally relented.
Ruby smirked as she turned back to making something to keep herself busy.
Zachary walked back into the kitchen.
Ruby turned and gave him a small smile. “How is she doing?” she asked him.
Zachary leaned over the counter and placed his forearms down on it to support himself. “I believe she’s okay. It was a big spell. I shouldn’t have had her do something so big, especially since it’s been a while since she’d done magic,” he explained.
“So, what now?” Deak asked.
Zachary rubbed his face with his hands as he tried to figure out their next plan to try and rescue Vita. he still thought that Amanda would be their best shot, but he knew he would have a hard time getting Ruby to agree to that.
Ruby could sense that Zachary wanted to ask her something. “You still think that Amanda is our best shot at rescuing Vita.”
“I’m not going to lie and say no, I know she’s been through a lot. But after all that she has been through, she has stayed strong the entire time. Even when she thought about giving up, she never did.”
Ruby let out a sigh. “Yes, all that is true. But it doesn’t mean we should have her try something she has never done before. She has no control over her power at this time.”
“She might not, but her wolf does,” Deak chimed in.
Ruby turned to look back at Deak. “So what are you saying? You want to see if Amanda’s wolf can do the spell.”
“It couldn’t hurt.” Deak shrugged.
Ruby threw her hands up in the air and walked out of the kitchen. She headed toward the front door and walked out to the porch, slamming the door behind her.
Both Deak and Zachary flinched when they heard the front door slam shut. “Do you think one of us should go out there and talk with her?” Deak suggested.
Zachary shook his head. “Let her simmer down a bit. Sometimes she just needs to process things in her way or on her own time,” he replied.
Deak nodded.
************
Amanda tossed and turned through most of the night. She was having a hard time getting to sleep; she kept thinking about everything that has happened over the last few days. Amanda let out a sigh as she lay in her bed and looked at her ceiling.
“Amanda,” she heard a voice say to her.
She looked over at Tabitha who was sound asleep and wasn’t making any kind of noise.
“Amanda,” the voice called out to her again.
Willow?
But her wolf was sound asleep as well.
Amanda took a deep breath as she got up and walked around her room.
“Amanda.”
She looked over at her mirror and it looked misty. “What do you want?” she asked the strange figure in her mirror.
“Help me, Amanda.”
“I don’t know how,” she confessed to the figure.
“Go to my house, and in the basement, you’ll find what you need.”
Amanda shivered as she continued to watch the figure. She was getting a bad feeling about this. “How do I know that it’s you, Vita?”
“When we met, I gave you a special pendant.”
Amanda grabbed the pendant that she still wore. “Okay, Vita, I’ll do it.”
“Good, now you can wake up.”
Amanda bolted up in her bed, breathing heavily.
Willow?
Yes, we should go to help.
Amanda reached up to feel the pendant that was still around her neck, then she scrambled out of bed and started pulling clothes from her closet.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Tabitha said to her.
Amanda looked over at Tabitha, who still had her eyes closed but was moving around. “Tabitha, Vita came to me. She told me how I could help her.”
Tabitha opened her eyes and got out of bed. “I’ll call the guys and let them know when we’re leaving.”
Amanda stopped in mind-dress and looked at her. “Why do we need to call the guys?” she asked.
“Because we need someone to take us, and Hudson will be furious if he finds out that you left campus without him knowing.”
She has a point, let’s not disappoint our mate, Willow spoke in her head.
Amanda let out a sigh. “Okay.”
Tabitha tried to call Hudson, but he wasn’t answering. She then tried to call Marco, who answered on the second ring.
“What’s wrong?” he asked before even greeting her with a hello.
Tabitha smiled; she loved that no matter what< he had her back and would always be concerned about her. “Marco, Amanda knows how to help Vita but we have to go in Vita’s order to help her.”
“Did you call Hudson?”
“I tried but there was no answer.”
“Alright, I’ll get ready and see if I can get him up. He might still be healing from the fight earlier. Call Stan and see if he’s able to pick us up,” Marco directed.
“Got it. Thanks, Marco.”
“You know I’d do anything for you.”
Tabitha blushed.
“I’ll see you soon,” he told her before hanging up.
Marco jumped out of bed and quickly threw some clothes on. He walked down to Hudson’s door and gently knocked.
“Go away,” Hudson told him.
Marco mind-linked him so that he wouldn’t wake the other people in their hall.
Marco: Hudson, you need to get up. Amanda figured out how to help Vita.
Hudson: Good for her, now let me sleep.
Marco: We need to leave and head to Vita’s place.
Hudson: Great! You have my blessing. Just leave me alone!
