Vita woke up in a dark, empty room. She was lying in a bed. She felt cold as she looked down at her arm and noticed that she had an IV attached to her. Her body was not as weak as it had been, but she was still bound with the manacles that were around her wrists.
“You’re awake.”
Vita looked up and saw Tristan walking to ward her. Did you do this?” she asked him. Her voice was raspy from being dry.
He handed her a cup with a straw and helped her take a drink. “I did. If we hadn’t started getting some fluids inside you, you would have been dead.” He sat on the edge of the bed.
“Thank you.” She let out a sigh. It was only a dream. Deak hadn’t come to save her; she was still here, trapped. She was beginning to think that she was never going to be rescued.
“Hey, I’m sorry that you got yourself in the middle of all this. If you would just tell my mother what she asks for, this will be all over.”
Vita closed her eyes. Tristan was beginning to sound like a broken record. “Tristan, I don’t know anything about her. Why is your mother so dead set on getting information about her?” Talking this much was wasting her energy. She closed her eyes as she concentrated on her breathing.
“You need to rest. I’m sorry I pushed you while you are still recuperating. I just hate seeing you like this,” he admitted.
She nodded. “Perhaps I should get some sleep,” she said as she slowly turned onto her side and away from him.
Tristan got up from the bed. “I’ll check on you again in a few hours,” he told her and then left the room.
Vita let out a sigh of relief at the same time the tears began to fall as she cried herself to sleep.
*****
Amanda’s muscles tightened as they got the spell ready to go find Vita. she was worried about Vita; even though she hadn’t known the girl long, there was an unexplainable connection she felt for her. She wanted to be there when they rescued her. Amanda tilted her head left to right to stretch her muscles.
“Everything ok?” Hudson asked as he stood beside her.
“Yeah, my muscles feel tight that’s all.”
Hudson placed his hands on her shoulders and started to gently rub. “How’s that?”
Willow purred at the feeling of their mate’s touch and Amanda’s skin warmed. “Mm-hmm” was all she could get out.
Just as the tension started to ease, her phone vibrated in her pocket. She pulled out her phone and saw a text from Hudson’s mom, Luna Cynthia.
Cynthia: I hope everything is going well. It’s been a while since we heard from either you or Hudson. Just a reminder that the Full Moon is tomorrow night. We can’t wait to catch up with you and Hudson. Heart emoji.
Amanda let out a grunt.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
Amanda ran her hand over her forehead and through her hair. “Your mom just texted me to remind me it’s a full moon tomorrow night. They’re looking forward to catching up with us before the shift.”
If Willow was ready, this world is her first shift into her wolf form. She had heard stories of how painful the first shift was and had been not looking forward to it for some time.
Hudson rubbed his hand against his mate’s back to try and calm her. He knew that he had been dreading this moment and was afraid to go through with the shifting, but it needed to be done.
“Why do you need to go back to the pack?” Zachary asked.
Ruby stepped in. “With it being Amanda’s first time shifting and since she’s older, it would help her wolf if her friends and family were there to help with the shift. Especially her mate.” She looked at Hudson.
Hudson nodded.
“But what about Vita?” Amanda asked. “I want to be there when we rescue her.”
“Easy, don’t get so upset,” Deak told her.
“But, Deak.”
“Shhh, small girl. You’ve helped plenty. Once we have the spell completed, we can go and rescue you must shift.”
“I know, but why did this have to come along when we’re so close to rescuing Vita? She did so much for me, and I just want to reciprocate,” she said with a huff.
“And you will. Alright, I think I have everything ready to do the spell,” Zachary confirmed. “Now, Amanda, I need you to recite this over and over until the pendant turns green.”
Amanda sucked in a breath as she pulled the pendant over her head and held it in her hand. “You know, I’m going to want this back once you’ve found her,” she told Deak.
Deak bowed his head in respect to her wishes.
Amanda closed her eyes as she tried to calm her emotions and her nerves.
Willow, please help, she asked her wolf. But Willow stayed silent.
She took a deep breath, opened her eyes, and started the chant.
Everyone stood and waited patiently as they watched Amanda continue to say the chant, only nothing was happening.
Madeline stepped up and placed her hand over Amanda’s.
Amanda stopped and turned to look at Madeline.
“What is going through your mind at this moment, dear?” Madeline asked her.
“That I need to make this work.”
“And what about when you released your magic and knocked everyone out?”
Amanda looked around at everyone in the room. “I was worried about my friends and loved ones getting hurt. I wanted to protect them.”
“And your feelings and emotions took over, correct?”
Amanda nodded. “They did, and sometimes so does my wolf. I black out when she takes over.”
Madeline clicked her tongue. “I see.”
“Is this how it’s always going to be?” Amanda asked.
Madeline lifted her hand to Amanda’s shoulder and gently rubbed it. “No, my dear. You will learn to control your power and not need the assistance of your wolf. You have a strong power that has been buried inside you for many years, as has your wolf. From what I’ve heard, you have a very strong wolf and were able to tap into your magic and use it to kill the Lycan King.”
“Now I want you to close your eyes and think about Vita. let everything else fade away. Think about the last time you and Vita talked, how she looked, what she said.” Madeline said with encouragement. “Good, now focus on the pendant and try again.”
Amanda followed her directions. She thought about Vita and what she said to her when she put the pendant on Amanda. Amanda thought about how sweet Vita had been to her and she barely knew her. Amanda started to say the chant, and when she finally opened her eyes again the pendant was glowing green.
