Hudson and Marco ran as fast as their wolves could take them. They didn’t want to waste any time getting back to the campus to help the pack. Hudson could start to feel the anger festering inside him as he got closer and closer to campus. He was ready to fight and wanted to put an end to this chaos. He wanted to get back to the pack and be there for Amanda. She needed him and he wasn’t going to let anything get in his way.
He could sense they were getting close to where his pack members were. Artemis let out a howl as he changed through the woods and jumped into the fight, with Marco following close behind. The other pack froze once they saw that the Alpha had joined the fight.
Hudson shifted back into his human form to confront the other pack.
“Where’s your Alpha?” he commanded in his Alpha tone.
The other pack looked at each other, not knowing if they should answer his question. As they continued to look around they couldn’t find where their Alpha had gone.
Hudson grabbed one of them and glared at him, causing the kid to quiver with fear. “What pack do you belong to?” Hudson commanded.
“Oh…Howler’s pack,” he answered in fear.
Hudson let out a ferocious growl as he threw the kid back toward the other pack. His anger was growing, and he was having a hard time controlling his temper, but he wasn’t going to let Colson get away with this.
Hudson turned toward the members of his pack and mind-linked them.
Hudson: Head back to the pack immediately, Amanda needs the pack’s support.
Pack members: Yes, Alpha.
They all turned and shifted, making their way off campus.
Marco was about to turn and start to run when he noticed that Hudson wasn’t following his instructions. “What are you doing?” Marco asked.
“What needs to be done? Colson needs to be taught a lesson on messing with my pack,” Hudson told him.
He turned to leave but stopped when Marco stepped in front of him. “You need to think this through before you start something that could lead to a big war against the packs,” Marco warned.
Hudson looked at his friend in bewilderment. “The Howler’s pack has gone too far this time. Someone needs to put them in their place,” Hudson growled. He tried to get around Marco, but Marco continued to get in his way. Hudson narrowed his eyes at his friend. “Don’t make me use my Alpha tone on you to get out of my way.”
“You’re not thinking this through. What did you just tell the pack to do?” Marco replied.
“I told them to head back to the pack, Amanda needed the pack’s support.”
“Yes, and who does she need the most support from?”
Realization struck Hudson and he said, “Me. She needs me more than anyone.”
Marco nodded with encouragement. “So, let’s get back to the pack, so you can keep the promise you made to her.”
Hudson let out a breath as he ran his hand through his hair. Something was blocking his better judgment, something deep inside that was still pushing him to go find Colson and teach him a lesson. Amanda would understand. He was doing this for Amanda, her friend Vita, and his pack.
Marco watched his friend and Alpha as he was battling something internally inside him. He could see that he was conflicted about something. “What’s stopping you from keeping your promise to your mate?” Marco asked him.
Hudson shook his head. “I don’t know. I can’t explain it. There’s just so much anger and I can’t get control of it.”
Marco was getting concerned for his Alpha. Something wasn’t right.
****************
Vita tossed and turned as she heard faint noises coming from outside her room. She had been trying to push the noise out of her head but it seemed to get louder and louder. Vita opened her eyes and looked at the door. Something was coming and it was getting closer and closer to the door.
Vita tried to pull against the manacles that kept her tied down, but they wouldn’t give. She was helpless against whatever was coming for her. The lights started to flicker, and the room went pitch black. Vita’s heart raced as she waited for what was going to happen next. She has a cream and a growl coming from outside. She could feel the pounding of her heart as she took in deep breaths to calm herself down.
The door flung open, and a large man stood in the doorway. His breathing was labored as he stared into the dark room.
Vita sucked in a breath as the man started to walk into the room. She wanted to be frightened but there was something instinctively familiar about him. He continued to make his way to her without saying a word. She could see his icy blue eyes staring intently at her as he walked up to the side of the bed.
Vita released the breath she didn’t realize she was holding and whispered, “Deak.”
He leaned over her and took in her scent as he closed his eyes. When he opened them again his eyes were intense as if his wolf was skirting on the surface. “My Vita,” he purred.
Vita shivered to hear her name roll off his tongue. Her eyes filled with tears and her lip quivered as she tried to fight the tears from falling down her cheeks. “You came for me.”
He ran his hand down her cheek and wiped a tear away with his thumb. “I would go to the end of the world to find you,” he whispered.
Vita’s heart fluttered. She had never felt so happy and relieved at the same time. Someone cared about her.
Zachary ran into the room. “Oh, thank goodness, you found her. Come on, we have to go. We don’t have much time before they call reinforcements.”
Deak ripped away the manacles that were binding Vita and then swept her into his arms and cradled her into his chest. “I got you.”
Vita wrapped her arms around Deak’s neck. She had never felt safer than she did at that moment. But then she tensed. “What about the witches? Persephone and Tristan?” she asked with fear in her voice.
Deak growled when he heard her say that boy’s name. He wanted a piece of him and to make sure that he knew that Vita was his and that he would kill him if he ever touched her again.
“Only the wolves were here, we didn’t find any witches,” Zachary confirmed.
Vita sighed but she was still on edge. She just wanted to get out of there as fast as she could.
“I promise they won’t hurt you,” Deak swore.
Vita leaned against Deak’s chest and rested.
Deak was happy to have his Vita in his arms, but his wolf, Malakai, hurt his mate. And he was going to get it.
