Chapter 37

“We were ambushed, Hudson. Early this morning. Alpha’s hurt. We need you to come home,” was the last thing Hudson heard before he let out a loud growl and dropped to the ground.

He had gotten the attention of quite a few people as they walked by him.

Marco grabbed the phone from Hudson and confirmed with Charlie what he heard through the phone.

“He needs to come home, now. All of you. The sooner the better,” Charlie told Marco.

“I’ll gather everyone up, and we’ll head home,” Marco told Charlie before ending the call.

Foster and Noah were already in defense mode.

“What’s happened?” they both asked.

Clearly, they had heard the same thing Marco had heard with their sensitive hearing, but he answered them.

“There was an ambush. The Alpha is hurt; they want us all to report back to our pack,” Marco whispered.

“Alright, what do we need to do?” Foster asked Marco.

Marco was surprised when both Noah and Foster looked to him for answers. He looked down at Hudson and then back up at them.

“Alright, I’ll send a mind-link to our pack members letting them know to meet in the auditorium at Kennedy Hall.”

“What about the other wolves from other packs?” Noah asked.

“It’s not only our pack we need to notify, but we also need to notify all the wolves,” Hudson said as he kneeled on the ground.

They all looked down at Hudson as he starts to get up.

“We are not the only pack that he has hit or wants to hit. He plans to hit all the packs. I just know it. The way he talked, how he said things. He’s greedy, and he wants his hands on everything. Foster, Noah, you go and tell all the wolves that you can find and let them know they need to get into contact with their packs. We need all the packs to be on the defense so that they are not ambushed the way we were.”

Noah and Foster both nodded and bowed before heading off in one direction.

“Marco, let Tab know what’s going on. You and her team up and hit this part of the campus. I’ll mind-link the rest of our pack and tell them to make a quick bag then meet us at Kennedy Hall. I’m going to let Ruby know of the situation,” Hudson told Marco.

“Alright, what about Amanda?”

Hudson sucked in a breath when he heard his mate’s name. He couldn’t leave her here all by herself. She wouldn’t be protected. He had to protect them no matter how mad she got about this. As long as she was safe.

He headed over to the café. While on the way, he mind-link the rest of his pack and gave them directions when he walked into the café, he looked for Ruby. when he spotted her, he made his way straight to the front of the line, causing others already in line to make snide comments and disgruntled grunts.

“We need to talk,” Hudson whispered.

Ruby looked at him from the side of her eye as she handed a customer their drink order and smiled, thanking them for coming in and hoping to see them again.

“Hudson, not now. There’s a rush.”

“It’s about home,” Hudson voiced softly.

Ruby whipped around to look at Hudson. She could see the anger radiating off him and knew that something bad had happened.

“Okay, let me just get the situation, and I’ll be right upstairs,” she told Hudson.

Hudson nodded and headed up to the apartment.

Hudson didn’t know if Amanda was going to be there or not. By this time, their English class would have already started. He knew Amanda was a very smart student, and missing class was not a normal thing for her.

He knocked on the door before letting himself in. when there was no answer, Hudson slowly opened the door and stuck his head in as he strained to listen if anyone else was in the apartment. He heard nothing and didn’t sense her close by. He let out a sigh. He headed to the room that he was told she was staying in and walked in. her suitcase was in her room but had yet to be opened fully. From the look of it, Amanda changed quickly before heading to English. Hudson opened the suitcase, and his mate’s scent wafted in the air. He closed his eyes as he sucked in the heavenly scent.

He grabbed one of the tops, brought it up to his face, and rubbed his face in it. His wolf purred as he took in the scent of their mate and feel something that had touched her. He looked back into the suitcase and noticed something that was familiar. He pushed a few items to the side and pulled out his sweatshirt. He looked at it confused. How’d she? And then he remembered the night he let her borrow it. He had forgotten that he had given it to her. He pulled it out and noticed something. He brought the item to his nose and smelled it. His sweatshirt was a mix of their scent, and he loved it!

His eyes rolled into the back of his head as he tried to pull out as much of that smell as he could. He put the sweatshirt on to refresh his scent for Amanda. He might not be able to see her or get close to her, but his scent would! It would be a helpful reminder of her their time together.

He heard Ruby walking up the stairs and headed back to the living room.

Ruby walked in, “Hudson, what’s happened?”

Hudson held both his hands up in a calm manner.

“There’s been an ambush back at the pack. My dad’s been hurt. We’ve been summoned to head back to the pack,” Hudson told her.

“Oh, Hudson. I’m so sorry. Alpha is a strong wolf; he’ll pull through this.”

Hudson gave her a small smile.

“How quickly do you think that you can be ready?” he asks her.

Ruby looked at him confused.

“What do you mean?” she asked him.

“Ruby, all wolves are to report back to the pack. They want all of us to go.”

Ruby’s eyes widened when she heard this. It had been years since she had been summoned back to the pack. But it was only for a short time. Yes, she was worried about the Alpha, but that didn’t deem enough reason to be summoned home.

“I don’t understand. Is there more? Why would all the wolves be summoned?”

“The Lycan from the other night is involved with the attack. We feel for the safety of our pack, everyone should head home,” Hudson explained.

Ruby nodded and then held a breath, “Hudson, what about Amanda?”

“I know. I need your help to get her back to the pack.”

“What if she refuses?” Ruby asked.

“I might just have to drag her back caveman style,” Hudson chuckled.

Ruby shook her head and smirked.

“Just do the best you can and keep me posted,” Hudson said as he walked to the bathroom in Ruby’s apartment, but instead of going to the bathroom, he went into Amanda’s room and took off the sweatshirt. He tried to put it back as he found it, but he wasn’t completely sure.

He walked out of the room and found Ruby leaning against the wall, waiting for him.

Hudson looked at her smiled and shrugged.

“I need her to remember what I smell like.”

Ruby shook her head and pushed him out of the apartment. He pulled out his phone to check the time. Now, he needed to head over to the auditorium at Kennedy Hall and talk with his fellow pack members.
