Hudson ran as far and as fast as he could. He was so angry at his friends but mostly at himself because she never told them about Amanda being his mate. But they knew now. He wasn’t sorry for protecting his mate. When he looked at her after he got up, he saw something in her eyes. But he saw something in her eyes. But he couldn’t exactly figure out what it was. He needed to know so he made a turn and headed over to Ruby’s place.
When Hudson got to Ruby’s he shifted back and grabbed some shorts and a t-shirt from a tree close by. He walked around as he looked to see which room Amanda was staying in. he notice movement coming from the second story. He leaped up and peeked into the window.
Amanda was laying down on the bed looking up at the ceiling. He tapped the window softly to get her attention. Amanda sat up and looked over at the window. When she saw Hudson, she walked over to the window and opened it.
“What are you doing here, Hudson?” She said questionably but had a small smile on her face.
“I just wanted to make sure I didn’t scare you. Did I?” He asked her.
She thought about it for a moment as she watched his face. He was genuinely concerned that he had scared her.
She shook her head, “No, you didn’t scare me.”
“I’m sorry.”
She looked at him confused. “For what?”
“For not telling them sooner. If I had told them, then none of that would have happened and you wouldn’t have seen me like that.”
“Maybe it was a good thing for me to see you like that,” she said shyly.
“But…”
“You defended me, Hudson, just like you protected me from that Lycan. I’ve been trying so hard to show that I’ve changed. Maybe it’s time that I realized that you’ve changed, and it’s time I learn who the real Hudson is.”
Hudson couldn’t believe what he had heard coming from Amanda. Was she actually going to give him a chance?
“Come with me, I want to show you something,” he asked her.
Amanda looked hesitant.
“Please?”
“Your mom asked if I would come to dinner at the house, I think I should go. To be respectful,” she said softly.
“I promise I’ll have you back before dinner,” he told her.
Amanda thought for a moment and then nodded.
“Ok. I’ll meet you out front.” She told him.
Hudson smiled. He wanted to kiss her, but he was going to take this slowly. He needed to earn her trust and make her feel safe with him. He turned and jumped down from the second floor.
Amanda leaned over the window and watched Hudson jump down. When he landed he turned and looked up at her. Amanda just let her mouth drop. She would’ve landed on her butt or hurt herself rather than just landing like it was nothing. She shook her head as she pulled herself back into the window closed it and headed downstairs.
“Ruby?” She called out.
“In the kitchen,” Ruby answered.
Amanda made her way into the kitchen and found Ruby baking.
“Ruby, would it be okay if I go out for a little while?” She asked.
“Of course, Sugar. Tell Hudson I said hi.” Ruby told her.
“But… How?” Amanda questioned.
Ruby turned and winked at her then she tapped her nose.
“Just be back in time for us to go up to the pack house for dinner.”
“I will. What are you making?”
“Luna Cynthia loves desserts so I’m just making an assortment of treats. I appreciate that she’s letting you stay here with me.
So, it’s just my way of saying thank you.”
Amanda nodded, “Luna Cynthia, seems cool.”
Ruby laughed.
“Yes, she is very cool. Now go on, you don’t want to keep Hudson waiting.”
“Right. I’ll see you later.”
“Bye, Sugar.”
Amanda headed to the front door and when she opened it she found Hudson waiting.
“For a second, I thought you were having second thoughts.”
Amanda stepped out and closed the door behind her.
“I was just letting Ruby know that I was going out. She says hi.”
Hudson extended his hand out, “Ready?”
Amanda looked down at his hand, she took a deep breath and then placed her hand in his, and answered, “Mm-hmm.”
Hudson started to make his way toward the forest that was behind Ruby’s house. Amanda halted for a moment.
“Where are we going?” She asked hesitantly.
Hudson chuckled.
“Don’t worry it’s not that far. You’ll be safe, I promise.” He told her.
Amanda looked at the forest, and then at Hudson. A small part of her was not ready to trust him completely. But there was a voice deep inside telling her to trust him.
Hudson tugged on her hand gently and Amanda started to walk again. They walked through the forest for about a mile when they came upon a small creek, they followed the creek until they came upon a small waterfall.
“It’s beautiful,” Amanda spoke.
“I like to come up here sometimes when I have a lot to think about or just need to get away from the world.”
Amanda took a deep breath as she took in the fresh air around them. For her, there was just something so calming about the area. Amanda walked down by the water, she took off her shoes and socks so he could dip her feet into the cold water. Hudson sat down next to her and did the same thing.
“So, your mom seems pretty cool. After you left she went off on Noah and Foster about how they mistreated me. They actually apologized for everything.” Amanda told him.
Hudson sighed and shook his head. He laid back on the grass and covered his face with his arm.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I just keep messing things up.” He says softly.
Amanda sat there wondering what she could do to show she wanted to give him a chance, and then she came up with something.
“Hudson.”
“Yeah.”
“Will you show me your wolf?” She asked him.
Hudson sprang up quickly and looked at Amanda surprised, “What?”
Amanda sat up straight and said, “I want you to show me your wolf.”
Hudson’s wolf was chomping at the bit and started to push to the surface. Amanda could see Hudson’s eyes start to glow and giggle.
“I guess he is in agreement.”
“Are you sure? He won’t hurt you.”
“I think I know that. Yes, I want to see him.”
Hudson smiled and stood up, he walked over behind some trees and shifted. His wolf was anxious for Amanda to see him. Amanda’s eyes widened as Hudson’s wolf slowly walked over to her. She’d forgotten how big he was and up close he was massive. His fur was dark and thick, but his eyes were still blue like Hudson’s. She slowly brought her hand up and started to pet him.
“You’re so soft.” She said surprisingly.
Hudson let out a purr as he and his wolf enjoyed the touch of their mate but was suddenly interrupted by a ferocious growl.
