Chapter 49

Amanda watched as Ruby and Deak left the mausoleum. She started to feel her anxiety grow a bit since now it was just down to the two of them. She could feel Hudson’s stare on her and be afraid to turn and look into those burning eyes. She knew he was upset with her and now that they were alone he would want answers that she was afraid to give.

Hudson waited for Amanda to turn and look at him. He hated the anger that he was feeling, but he needed an explanation about the party, about leaving with that douche, all of it. He needed to know how she felt about him. His heart fluttered when he heard her call out his name and run into his arms, his wolf, and he needed that. But Hudson wanted more.

He let out a sigh and said quietly, “Come on let’s head to the pack.”

Amanda nodded and followed Hudson out of the Mausoleum. Once they stepped out Hudson stopped and felt tense. Amanda stood next to him and looked around the cemetery.

“What’s wrong?” She asked as she took a step closer to him.

He put his arm out to keep her distance, as much as he wanted her close to him and he felt the warmth of his mate close he needed to stay on alert so they could get out of there safely.

He whispered softly hoping that she would hear him.

“We’re being watched. You can’t stand too close to me. Follow me and keep your head down. If you keep looking around they will know that something is off.”

Amanda nodded and followed Hudson out of the cemetery and down to Ruby’s car. Once in the car, Amanda started to take off the shawl.

“You should probably keep it on, at least until we hit the pack territory maybe even until we get to Ruby’s. We still haven’t figured out who the spy is.” Hudson advised.

Amanda pulled the shawl back over her head, sat back in the seat, and stayed quiet. She knew at some point they were going to need to talk but she didn’t know where to start. So, she started off with a soft, “I’m sorry.”

She looked over at Hudson when he didn’t answer and saw his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.

After a bit, of a long awkward silence, Hudson finally answered, “I need you to tell me everything.”

Amanda’s eyes widened, “Where do you want me to start?”

“How about at the point where you lied to me about where you were going to be for the night.”

Amanda gulped.

She look down at her hands and started to fidget before she sighed and then started, “Kimmy invited me to go to the party. She hadn’t seen me all week and thought that it would be fun for us. She didn’t want me to tell you about the party because you two don’t get along and thought you would spoil the mood.”

Hudson growled.

Amanda continued, “So when you came over and talked about you going to the game with the guys that gave me an opportunity to go to this party and think things over.”

“What do you mean think things over?”

“I needed some time away from you and the pack, and just be myself for a moment.”

She looked over again at Hudson. He was staring hard at the road in front of him but nodded for her to continue.

“After you left, I texted Tabitha to see if she wanted to go to the party, so I at least had someone there with me. We got separated and Calvin came up to me and asked if we could talk. I followed him outside of the party he had grabbed two random cups from the counter and told me it had just been punched. I was apprehensive about drinking it at first but when I saw him take a drink out of the similar cup I thought it was safe.”

Hudson started to breathe heavily, he pressed down on the gas pedal and the car was going faster than the intended speed limit by over twenty-thirty miles per hour.

“Maybe we should finish this when we get back to Ruby’s house. I don’t want you to get so angry that we get into an accident.”

He looked at her with an angry glare, but it softened quickly when he saw the fear in her eyes. He took deep breaths calming himself and his wolf down.

“Maybe you’re right. I thought I could hear this while I drove us home, but I haven’t really had the chance to mentally deal with everything that happened.”

“I can understand that. I’m sorry for putting you through all this. Thank you for coming and getting me.”

Hudson looked over at her, he could see the tears that were threatening to fall down her face.

“Of course, I would come for you. You’re my mate, I would do anything to keep you safe.” He told her.

Amanda’s heart filled with joy hearing Hudson say those things but there was still something that was holding her back from giving him her heart.

“I guess, I’m still trying to get used to that.” She admitted.

Hudson looked over at Amanda, her head was down. He wished he knew what she was thinking. With her being human, he didn’t know what kind of connection they would have since she didn’t have a wolf. He didn’t know if once they completely mated if he would be able to mind-link with her and be able to free all things that she was feeling. This was something he wanted to research and find out.

He let out a sigh as he turned onto the pack lands and made his way to Ruby’s. He pulled up into the driveway and followed Amanda into the house. He stood at the entryway and watched Amanda as she took off the shawl hanging it up on a hook that was by the door.

Amanda looked at Hudson who was staring intensely at her and asked, “What?”

Before she knew what was happening he pulled her against the door and was leaning himself against her, his hand holding him up above her head and his forehead pressed against hers. Her heart was beating, and the tingles were causing sparks all throughout her body.

She whispered, “Hudson.”

He leaned down and captured her lips with his. Amanda wrapped her arms around Hudson’s neck while he lifted her up off the ground and pulled her legs around his hips. Amanda could feel her body burning with desire as Hudson pushed his body against hers. She could feel his need and want for only her and it excited her to feel like this. She didn’t want it to end.

She let out a sad moan when he released her lips and placed his forehead against  hers again and whispered, “Please?” In a voice, she had never heard from him before.

“Please what?” She asked.

“Please, give us a chance, give me a chance.” He pleaded.

Amanda whispered, “OK.”
