Chapter 51

There were so many things that were going through Ruby’s head at the moment she couldn’t think clearly.

“Ruby?”

She heard the Hungarian voice call her name, but she was still lost in the fact that Amanda was adopted.

“Ruby!” Deak said a little louder.

“Huh?”

Which way do we go to get to the house?” Deak asked.

Ruby looked around the forest to get her bearings right. She looked up at the sky and then sniffed the air.

“We need to head about two miles west of here and we should be close to my place.”

“Do we need to worry about warriors around the area?”

Ruby thought for a moment and then decided to make a phone call.

“Luna Cynthia, it’s Ruby.”

“Ruby, thank goodness you’re okay. Have you and Hudson found Amanda yet?”

“Yes, she’s fine and I’ll explain everything soon. But I need a favor.”

“Of course, Ruby what is it?”

“I need the warriors away from the borders by my house. I know that this is a ridiculous request, especially with everything that’s going on. But I promise this will all make sense soon.”

Luna Cynthia stayed quiet for a moment before she finally spoke again, “You promise to tell me everything once you are back on pack property.”

“As soon as I find out everything, you’ll be the first person I call.”

“Alright Ruby, but only because I trust you. Is Hudson with you? I haven’t seen him yet.”

“He’s waiting at my house for us to get there,” Ruby told her.

“Us?”

Ruby knew that Luna was going to pick up on that.

“Yes, I have someone with me, but he’s trustworthy.” She told Luna as she glared at Deak who was giving her a devilish smile.

Ruby shook her head but smirked. He better be trustworthy she thought, or she would have his head on a plater for risking the lives of the people she loved.

“I don’t like this Ruby. but I will have the warriors moved away from that border, you will have only five minutes to get through.”

“That’s plenty of time. Thank you, Luna Cynthia.” Ruby said and then hung up.

“Good work. We must run, are you able to move in that or should I carry you?” Deak asked with a smirk.

“Calm down hound dog, I can take care of myself. I may be older than you, but I am very fast on my feet.”

“Lykan’s age slowly. I could be older than you and you’d never know.” Deak said before he took off running through the forest.

Ruby felt a tingle race inside her, but her wolf huffed. Her wolf was not liking all this flirting she was doing with the Lycan. She just laughed and took off after Deak.

Amanda was looking for something to eat when she felt the shiver and the tingle hit her. She smiled. She was starting to get used to these feelings and enjoying that it meant that Hudson was close to her. After another moment she felt his hands wrap around her waist and his chin rest on her shoulder. How quickly everything had changed for them and with everything that happened she wasn’t complaining one bit.

“What are you doing?” Hudson asked.

“I was looking for something to eat. I haven’t earthen since last night.” She told him as she continued to look through the cabinets for a snack.

Hudson pulled her back and walked her over to a chair by the island in the kitchen.

“Here sit, I will find you something to eat.” He told her.

“Alright, but just so you know I’m lactose intolerant.” She told him.

He nodded his head, “Good to know.”

He grabbed different fruits and veggies from the fridge and also crackers from the cabinet.

He placed a plate in front of her a short while later with a variety of different things for her to snack on.

“I guess there are a lot of things that we’re going to have to learn about each other.” Hudson omitted.

Amanda giggled.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. I mean we’ve known each other for years but we haven’t really gotten a chance to know each other.”

They heard the front door open and shut.

Hudson tensed for a moment and then calmed once he saw Ruby and Deak come into the kitchen.

‘You have food, I’m hungry.” Deak said as he stole some fruit from Amanda.

Hudson let out a growl.

“Hey, get your own. This is mine.” Amanda whined at the same time.

Ruby started to make two plates for them and placed one in front of Deak.

Hudson glared at Deak while he took his time eating the food that was placed in front of him.

“Well?”

“Well, what wolf? I’m trying to eat.” Deak said with amusement.

Hudson growled louder this time.

Amanda walked over and tucked herself into Hudson. He instantly calmed when he felt her by his side.

“Woah,” Amanda said out loud.

Hudson looked down at her confused.

“You just calmed the moment I touched you.”

Hudson chuckled, “That’s what mates do for each other. Especially Alpha’s.”

Amanda’s eyes widened. She didn’t know that she was able to do something so easily, if only she had that when they were in High School how differently it would have been for them. Amanda started to get sad, but she shook it off and didn’t want to dwell on the past.

“Are you ok?” Hudson whispered.

Amanda nodded but didn’t want to explain.

Hudson kissed the top of her head and already she started to feel all her anxiety slip away. She sucked in a deep breath and wrapped her arms around Hudson. She was beginning to like this new thing between them.

After waiting for a short while Deak finally finished eating his food.

“Where you like me to begin?” Deak asked.

Ruby chimed in, “It might be best you start at the beginning.”

“I have lived here for three years since my family passed. I no longer wanted to stay in Hungary with my father’s side of the family. But recently my uncle found me and asked if I help him watch a student that was attending college nearby. At first, I didn’t think anything of it until the first attack that hit. I wasn’t aware of other Lycans in the area and was concerned that it would come back to me that I was the culprit. But uncle reassured me that he had the situation under control but to continue to watch the girl.”

“What girl?” Amanda asked.

Deak let out a sigh.

“I was asked to keep watch on you.” He said quickly.

Amanda sucked in a breath.

“B…But why?” She asked. She could feel her heart start to the race, and then start to calm when she felt Hudson bury his head in the crook of her neck.

“At first I didn’t understand. Then I thought it was because of the wolf, but now I think it’s something else.”

“What else could it be, is he who attacked our pack? Is he the Lycan that’s been messing with all of us?” Hudson asked.

“Yes, my uncle is called the Lykan King.”
