Hudson bent over in pain as his head started to fill with screams from his pack members through the mind link.
“Wolf, what’s wrong?” Deak asked as held Hudson up from collapsing.
“It’s my pack. I have to go.” Hudson breathed out as he tried to get control of the situation.
“Go, I can stay here with the small girl,” Deak offered.
Amanda walked out and saw Hudson hunched over. She quickly closed the door behind her and ran to Hudson’s side.
“Hudson? What’s wrong?” She asked him her voice filled with concern.
He lifted up once the pain started to subside, “It’s the pack, something happened. I have to go.”
“I can go with you.” She stated. She didn’t want him to go by himself.
He looked at her and smiled, “I have to shift in order to get there in time.”
Amanda’s shoulders dropped. “Oh.”
Hudson wrapped his arms around her and brought her face up to look at him. He leaned down and kissed her lips softly.
When he pulled back he looked Deak straight in the eye, “Swear to me you will protect her with your life.”
Deak nodded and answered, “I swear.”
He looked back down at Amanda and kissed her lips once more. He then lowered his forehead against hers and inhaled her scent once more before leaving. He released her and started to make his way down the stairs.
“Hudson!” Amanda called out.
He turned back to look at her.
Amanda just stood there, she wanted to tell him how she really felt about him. These feelings were growing inside of her every moment that she spent with him. But she was scared. Was it too soon?
“Be careful.”
Hudson nodded and then turned to continue down the stairs, once outside he made his way toward the forest. He shifted as soon as he could and allowed his wolf to take over. His wolf ran and didn’t stop.
Amanda sat there for a moment and started to feel guilty. He should have left after dropping her off, but Hudson choose to stay and help her deal with hearing the news that her parents weren’t her biological parents. He should have left to be with the pack.
Amanda started to feel as if her life were no longer real like at any moment she was going to wake up and all this would not be happening. She pinched herself on her arm.
Deak chuckled.
Amanda looked at him, “What?”
“Sorry, small girl. I’m afraid this is real. Pinching is not going to wake you.”
She let out a sigh as she looked out in the distance, “So I’m beginning to learn.”
Deak tugged on Amanda’s sleeve, “Come, we go back in. Parents will be concerned.”
She nodded and followed him in.
Amanda’s parents were grabbing their things and getting ready to leave.
“Mom, Dad where are you going?” She asked them.
Her mom looked at her and smiled while she rubbed her arm, “We need to head back home. We need to give you some time to process all of this.” Melinda looked over at Ruby, “Ruby, thank you for talking with us and helping us tell our daughter the truth.”
Ruby smiled and gave Melinda a hug, “I’ll keep an eye on her for you.” She whispered.
Melinda mouthed, “Thank you,” before she headed to the door.
Jason hugged his daughter before leaving, he wanted to tell her to think twice before getting involved with the Harlow boy, but he didn’t want to upset his daughter more than she already was.
“Protect yourself.” Was the best advice he felt that he could give her.
Amanda smiled and nodded. “I will.”
The room was silent once the parents left. Amanda sat down where she had been sitting before. She picked up the blanket that her mother had given to her. She looked it over and then opened it up. She gathered the material and covered her face with it as she inhaled the lingering scent that was on it. It was then Amanda had finally broken down and let it all out.
Ruby walked over and sat next to Amanda. She pull the blanket away from her face and pulled the girl into her arms and held her as she cried.
Deak walked over to the window to give them some space as he watched the scenery.
Zachary walked up behind him.
“Care to fill me in on what’s going on?” Zachary asked.
Deak continued to watch the scenery as the light of day was weaning down and dusk was soon to come.
“We need to get her to a safer place; we are too weak to protect her here,” Deak advised.
“Who’s after her?”
Deak sucked in a breath before he answered.
“My uncle. We must go now.” Deak ordered.
Amanda lifted her head up and didn’t ask any questions. She knew this was all about her and it was pointless to question anything at this point. If only Hudson were here, but he had enough on his plate at the moment and didn’t need to be worried about her too.
Ruby and Amanda got up from the couch gathered their belongings and made their way out the door.
They started to get into Ruby’s car when Deak caught a scent.
His uncle’s pathetic guards were coming.
“Zachary, you have to get her to safety, go to the Mausoleum if you have to. They can’t get their hands on her. Now, this is important.” Deak tells him.
“Why, what’s so important about her?” Zachary asked.
“I don’t know. But my uncle has been watching her for some time. He believes that she’s important in some way.”
“What are you going to do?”
“Be a diversion while you get away. When I give you the sign, drive, drive as fast as you can.”
Zachary nodded and headed over to the driver’s seat where Ruby was already seated.
“I’m driving,” He told her.
Ruby glared at him for a moment but then second over the console and sat in the passenger seat. He started up the car and backed out of the parking spot.
“What about Deak?” Amanda asked.
“He’s being the diversion, so we can get out of here alive,” Zachary told her.
Amanda quickly turned around and looked at Deak. he nodded his head, letting her know that this is what needs to be done.
The sky started to get dark and cloudy and in front of Ruby’s café, she could see three men standing on the street.
“Well, Well Deak. looks like you actually did what The King wanted you to do.” Chimed one of the guards.
“Looks that way, Tibor,” Deak answered.
“We’ll take the girl from here for you,” Andras demanded.
“Oh, I plan to give the girl to The King myself,” Deak informs them.
“The King grows tired of waiting; he wants the girl now!” Andras yells.
“Then come and get her.” Deak pulls off his shirt and quickly changes into his Lykan form and started to advance toward the men.
“I believe that’s our cue,” Zachary says as he shifts the car into drive and takes off.
