Hudson could hear a faint beeping sound that was forcing him to wake up. He wanted to reach over and beat whatever was making that annoying sound, but he felt something holding him back on his right side.
Hudson slowly began to open his eyes. He looked around the bright room and then down to his right side. A smile started to curve on his face. Amanda was curled asleep on his right side. He breathed a sigh of relief, as his wolf was purring that their mate was next to him. When he leaned his head over to take in her scent his eyes widened when he realized her scent had changed. His eyes rolled into the back of his head as he sucked in her new smell. This one to him was even better.
Hudson laid a kiss upon Manda’s forehead.
Amanda woke up slowly, looked up at Hudson, and smiled.
“You’re awake,” She whispered as he felt her body relax even more against him.
“How long have I been out?” He whispered since his throat was dry and scratchy.
Amanda leaned forward and grabbed the cup of water from the tray that was at the end of the bed.
“Here drink this,” She told him.
He took a drink from the straw and was relieved to feel the cold water hit his throat.
After he was done, she returned the cup to the table and laid back down beside him.
“You’ve been out for a week,” She admitted with a sigh.
Hudson took in what she said and nodded his head gently. He was still feeling groggy and didn’t want to move too much.
There was a knock at the door.
Tabitha and Marco came through the door said with a smile.
She leaned in and gave him a hug but was interrupted by a jealous growl.
Both Tabitha and Hudson turned to look at Amanda, who had clamped her hand over her mouth.
“I am so sorry,” Amanda said with embarrassment.
They all just laugh.
Hudson put his arm back around Amanda.
“So, what did I miss?” He asked everyone.
They were all a little adamant about telling him what had happened while he was fighting for his life.
Hudson looked at his two best friends, then Deak, and finally at Amanda.
Deak finally gave in and started, “Well some of us were late to the party at the mansion or knocked out at the time when you were down for the count. But from what I have gathered, your mate is a very scary wolf when you mess with her mate.”
Hudson looked down at Amanda who blushed.
“And powerful too,” Tabitha chimed in.
“Yeah, Hudson. I wouldn’t get her mad if I were you,” Marco chimed in.
“Hey,” Amanda said and pouted.
They all laughed, but then it got awkwardly quiet.
“And what about the King?”
Deak sighed and said, “Her wolf took over and tapped into the magic that killed both Kimmy and King. they are no more.”
Amanda let out a huff as she rubbed her arm.
Hudson looked down at his mate surprised and then his eyes filled with concern. He could tell that his mate wasn’t handling the fact that she had killed two people very well. He pulled her tighter into his side and kissed the top of her head.
He could feel Amanda melt into him more and that made him happy.
“Maybe we should give the lovebirds some time to themselves,” Tabitha suggested.
They said their goodbyes and left the room.
“And then there were two,” Hudson said softly.
“How are you feeling? I should tell the doctor that you’re awake.” She said as she tried to pull away from him.
He pulled her back into his side.
“I have everything I need right here,” He told her as he tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear.
He lifted her chin to look into those beautiful eyes he loved so much. “For a moment I thought I had lost you back there,” He said to her.
“I thought I lost you. Even after I told you that I…” she stopped.
“You told me what?” He asked as he kept hold of her chin.
She smiled, “ I told you I loved you.”
Hudson lifted his eyebrow at her and smirked.
“That’s the best thing I have ever heard.” He leaned down and kissed her.
Ruby was wiping down the counter when Zachary walked into her cafe. Her heart started to race as he walked toward her.
“Have you heard anything yet?” He asked her.
Ruby nodded.
“I just got off the phone with Tabitha. Hudson is awake and doing well.”
“Phew,” Zachary said as he held onto his chest.
“That was pretty scary, what we did back there,” He said quietly.
Ruby nodded her head.
“You know, back there I kept saying to myself that if I make it out of all this, I need to tell Ruby how I truly feel.”
Ruby’s eyes widened.
Zachary grabbed her hand and pulled her away from behind the counter and up against him.
“Ruby, why did you break up with me all those years ago?” He whispered into her ear.
Ruby tried to pull away from him, but he refused to let her go.
“I found you in bed with another girl,” She finally said to him.
He released her but looked at her confused.
“What?”
“I went up to your college, and when I went to your dorm I found you in bed with another girl.”
Zachary’s eyes widened when he realized what happened.
“That was my cousin, you know the one you saw on the wall. We have similar features but also he likes to shift himself to look like me,” He explained.
Ruby looked at him with uncertainty.
Zachary lifted her hand and put it over his heart. “I swear on my own life Ruby, my heart has only belonged to you and no one else.”
Ruby’s heart filled with love when she heard those words. She pulled his face toward hers and kissed him.
“That’s nice,” Deak said to the lovebirds.
They pulled back and just looked at each other.
“Deak, is there something that you need?” Zachary asked.
“Well, since you’ve mentioned. Yes, Who’s the girl with short hair and combat boots?”
“Vita?” Ruby said.
“Vita, is that her name?” Deak asked with enthusiasm.
“What do you want with her?” Zachary asked guarded.
“I need to meet with her, please as a favor to me.”
“Why?”
“She’s mate,” Deak told them with a shrug.
“What?” They both exclaimed.
“Ruby, please. Do this for me?”
Ruby sighed and said, “I’ll think about it.”
Deak smiled as he raised his arms behind his head and leaned back in his chair.
The doctor checked on Hudson as did his family. They were all relieved to see their future Alpha was awake and feeling better.
Amanda laid against Hudson, “So, how do I learn about being a hybrid?” She asked him.
“We’ll figure it out,” He told her as he held her hand.
“Together?” She asked him.
He nodded.
“Forever.”
Then leaned in and kissed her.
